This assignment challenged us to create perspective images that captured the essence of what it feels like to be both and adult and a child in the same space. I thought it would be interesting to explore this dichotomy in a playground setting. I took a trip to my local playground one afternoon and started sketching out the main structures to be used as a framework for the rest of the project. Being in a playground as an adult always has brought me warm nostalgic feelings, and a feeling of being too awkwardly large to really enjoy the space. It can feel like a safe refuge from the stresses of being an adult, and can be an intimate and quiet space towards dusk. Meanwhile, as a child I was sometimes scared by playgrounds, due to too many injuries falling off structures or being afraid to confront the local bully. I often felt so small as a kid in comparison to the scale of the playgrounds I visited, and wanted to convey that feeling in my work.
